On a desktop, nweautocare.com looks like a professional shop: a dark and orange design, the address, hours and phone number in the header, an orange "Book Service" button that opens the Shopmonkey scheduler, a full menu of services, and a clear "Full-Service Auto Repair & Tire Shop in Katy, TX" headline. Phones are a different story, and phones are where most "oil change near me" and "brake repair katy" searches happen. On a 390 px phone screen the header shows only the logo: no phone number and no Book Service button in the first screen. The headline and the services panel run off the right edge. The page also jumps around while it loads (layout shift 0.754 on the homepage), and pinch-zoom is turned off. We captured desktop screenshots with headless Chrome at 1440×900 and mobile at 390×844.
Screenshots
Home page, desktop 1440×900. Address, hours ("Monday 8 AM to Friday 6 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 4 PM, Sunday Close"), phone 832-683-4487 and Book Service are all visible. H1 on the left, a Services/Tires tab panel on the right. A strong desktop first screen.
Home page, mobile 390×844. Only the logo shows in the header. The H1 is cut off ("FULL-SERVICE AUTO REPA…"), and the subtitle and the services panel also run past the right edge. No call or booking button in the first screen (H7).
/brake-repair/, desktop. The service-page template from July 2026. On desktop this template shifts by 0.496 while loading (Lighthouse CLS), so buttons move as people try to tap them (H4).
/about/. The 2017 founding story and the 36-month/36K-mile TechNet warranty. No team photos or names yet (M6). The page has two H1s (M2).
/oil-change-service-katy-tx/, one of the old duplicate pages. Still live and indexable, not linked from the menu, and showing a broken image next to "Oil Change Specialist in Katy, TX" (H1 consolidation item).
/hello-world/. The default WordPress post by "albertgalopastor1987", with the sample comment and an open comment form, inside the real site design (H1).
Findings
No call or Book button on a phone's first screen (H7)
On desktop the header carries the phone number and the orange Book Service button. On a 390 px phone, the header collapses to the logo alone. Someone with a check-engine light on the side of the road has to scroll or open the menu to find the number. Add a phone-sized header (or a fixed bottom bar) with two buttons:
"Call 832-683-4487" (
tel:+18326834487) and
"Book Service" (the Shopmonkey scheduler).
Headline and services panel overflow the screen (H7)
The H1 "FULL-SERVICE AUTO REPAIR & TIRE SHOP IN KATY, TX" is too large for a phone and is clipped at the right edge, along with the subtitle and the Services/Tires panel. That usually means the whole page scrolls sideways a little. Reduce the mobile font size, let the headline wrap, and stack the panel full-width under it.
The page jumps while it loads (H4)
Lighthouse measured a Cumulative Layout Shift of
0.754 on the homepage (mobile) and
0.496 on /brake-repair/ (desktop). Google's "good" threshold is 0.1. Content moves as late CSS and images arrive, which causes mis-taps. Most of it comes from the 2.1 MB of inline CSS and images without reserved space. See
Performance.
Pinch-zoom is blocked, and contrast fails (H7)
The viewport tag uses
user-scalable=no (or a maximum-scale under 5), which stops visitors from zooming in on small text and fails WCAG 1.4.4. Lighthouse accessibility: home 83 (mobile) / 78 (desktop), /brake-repair/ 81 / 77. Failing checks: color contrast, the Google Map iframe has no title, images without alt text (994 of 1,201 across the site), heading order, and list items outside a list.
A 1-star review is shown on every page (H5)
The Google reviews widget (WP Reviews Plugin for Google / Trustindex) displays every review, including a 1-star one:
"This is the worst place to go… These people will rip you off your money." It appears on the homepage and most service pages. Filter the widget to 4–5 star reviews.
What works
- A clean, consistent design on desktop, with the phone number, address and hours in the header of every page
- A clear booking path: the orange "Book Service" button goes straight to the Shopmonkey scheduler
- The header hours (Mon–Fri 8–6, Sat 8–4, Sun closed) match the Google Business Profile
- Real Google review text, the TechNet warranty, coupons and financing all exist on the site (several pages just need to be linked, M1)
Recommended Above-the-Fold (mobile first)
- Header on phones: logo plus two buttons, "Call 832-683-4487" and "Book Service", visible without opening the menu (H7)
- H1: "Auto Repair & Tire Shop in Katy, TX", sized to wrap on a 390 px screen (M2)
- Answer line: "Family-owned since 2017 at 19144 W Little York Rd. Brakes, A/C, transmissions, state inspections and tires, backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty." (confirm wording with the client)
- Proof strip: "4.5★ from 268 Google reviews · 36-month/36K-mile TechNet warranty · Financing available"
- Services panel full-width under the text; hero image after the text, as compressed WebP and not lazy-loaded (H4)
- No sideways scroll, pinch-zoom allowed, layout shift under 0.1
